Wryneck

Just done some background reading about unusual sightings. A visitor to the centre saw a wryneck and a yellow browed warbler in his garden at Beltinge. This is the best time of year for seeing the rarer birds in gardens. Wrynecks and Warblers were mentioned especially. Er I did think he said yellow barred. it should be yellow browed. Will have to correct that in our book! I really should pay more attention!

Sighting and sandmartins

Excitement of the day so far has beena sandmartin flying into the centre to look around our ‘Shore is a load of rubbish’ exhibition, which is very popular with visitors, thought provoking and attractive at once.

The martin was rescued and returned to the wild!

Two seals were also seen swimming around towards the towers; probably after sea bass!

Also seen recently: harriers, terns, swifts, and egrets. The big migrations have not yet started though.

Red kite, Herne and Broomfield historical group and more

I may, or may not, have seen a Red Kite at Reculver last Monday. I’m not the greatest bird watcher in the word…but all the ID sheets I have looked at suggest it was…it was early Monday morning.

Tuesday the Herne and Broomfield history buffs were out in force exploring the site…

It’s going to be a scorching weekend. Come and enjoy the site, but bring plenty of water, sun cream and hats…and of course, take everything away with you on departure. Our car key and glasses collection is getting out of hand 🙂

It’s another beautiful day at the foot of the old church. Low tide is early today at 1130am, so coming in as the day progresses, with high tide at 1740pm.
Wind from the south, it will be hot but bearable with the breeze.

Sunshine is here

Brilliant sunshine today. Two visitors reported a possible sighting of marsh or hen harriers.

Lots of boats sailing off the coast, and plenty of fishing along the sea wall.

Monday 21st June

Brilliant sunshine, no wind. Two school groups visiting the site, having a wonderful time. It’s a good day for cycling along the coast.

Also a good day for cleaning accumulated salt spray off the centre windows!
